About Department

The Department of Zoology has an aim to provide quality education to students and to contribute for the development of Animal Sciences and Zoological studies. The department emphasis on laboratory component in the teaching curriculum and research projects. The Department regularly organizes Educational Trips to wildlife sanctuaries and national parks, Science Fest, Guest Lectures etc. The Department has been holding various workshops, symposia, conferences and other teaching courses to provide a platform for scientific exchanges. The department practices interdisciplinary research. Faculty members are presently collaborating and MoU with leading institutes of the country like Central university of Karnataka, Karnataka state council for science and technology (KSCST) Project. In 2024, two faculty members and M.Sc. students were Awarded as state level “Best Project of the Year” during the 47th Series of state level Poster presentation and exhibition of the Student Project Programme (SPP)-2024.

The department promote the discovery and broad knowledge about the biology of animals, evolution and their environments. The holistic development of the student and make them able to contribute effectively for their welfare and society in this dynamic era.

Our mission is to offer high quality education dedicated to building minds with social and moral responsibility. We are committed to educating the students beyond the confines of a class room to make them better individuals and develop their personalities, enabling them to face the challenges of the modern world.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
 1.    To provide a comprehensive training in theoretical and practical Zoology to students.
 2.    To develop research aptitude and a scientific advancement.
 3.    Conducting educational tour to giving exposure to the students by visiting Wildlife Sanctuary, National Park, dairy industry, Sericulture, fisheries, poultry forms, Zoo etc.
 4.    To motivate students to conduct seminars, workshops on the topics included in the curriculum. It will help in achieving academic excellence and exposure.
 5.    To equip students with adequate practical skills that will enable them function productively in society.
 6.    To sensitize human society for animal welfare, conservation and protection of biodiversity.
 7.    To produce leadership in science and technology.
 8.    To develop the attitude of the students to concentrate on applied science aspects.
 9.    To create awareness of INSITU conservation of wild life.
