Eligibility: Passed Bachelor's Degree or equivalent. Obtained at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying examination.
DOCTORAL PROGRAMS: Ph.D
The Department of Botany offers a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) program for qualified scholars interested in conducting research. All candidates must adhere to the guidelines to fulfil the requirements of the University and the University Grants Commission (UGC) Ph.D. Program. Over the years, the department has expanded the research activities leading to emergence of research groups in different fields viz., Phytochemicals, Pharmacognosy, Tissue Culture, Pathology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology etc.
PROGRAM OUTCOME (PO):
PO-1: students can identify and classify all plant groups and also understand the evolutionary relationship and their taxonomic aspects.
PO-2: Knows the concept, process, physiology and molecular basis of plant development, also knows the method of cultivation and economic importance of various species, millets, leguminous plants, fruits, essential oils, vegetables etc.
PO-3: Students know about economically important algae, their cultivation and applications, and also methods of preparation and application of algal products.
PO-4: Understand the application of biopesticides; know about sources, methods and production of biofuel.
PO-5: Acquire knowledge of fermentation technology and production of fermented products.
PO-6: In seed technology students gain knowledge about seed structure development, chemical composition, seed production, processing, seed testing, quality control, seed certification and new hybrid variety.
PO-7: Students learn the basic Biotechnological aspects.
PO-8: Students understood plant organism interaction.
PO-9: To inculcate the specific temperament in the students and outside the scientific community.
PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOME (PSO):
PSO1: Skill development for the proper description using botanical terms, identification, naming and classification of life forms especially plants and microbes.
PSO2: Acquisition of knowledge on structure, life cycle and life processes that exist among plant and microbial diversity through certain model organism studies.
PSO3: Understanding of various interactions that exist among plants, animal and microbes; to develop the curiosity on the dynamicity of nature.
PSO4: Understanding of the major elements of variation that exist in the living world through comparative morphological and anatomical study.
PSO5: Ability to explain the diversity and evolution based on the empirical evidences in morphology, anatomy, embryology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and life history.
PSO6: Skill development for the collection, preservation and recording of information after observation and analysis- from simple illustration to molecular database development.
PSO7: Making aware of the scientific and technological advancements- Information and Communication, Biotechnology and Molecular Biology for further learning and research.
PSO8: Understanding the nature and basic concepts of all the plant groups, their metabolism, components at the molecular level, biochemistry, taxonomy and ecology.
PSO09: The course will make them aware of natural resources and environment and the importance of conserving it.
PSO10: Hands on training in various fields will develop practical skills, handling equipment’s and laboratory use along with collection and interpretation of biological materials and data.
PSO11: Knowledge gained through theoretical and lab-based experiments will generate technical personnel in various priority areas such as genetics, cell and molecular biology, plant systematics and biotechnology.
PSO12: Knowledgeable, disciplined students with good values, ethics, and kind heart will help in nation building globally. Students should be aware of ethical issues and regulatory considerations while addressing society needs for growth with honesty.
POS13: Best problem-solving skills in students would encourage them to carry out innovative research projects thereby making them to use knowledge creation in depth. Enable the students to be resourceful in identifying the plants.
POS14: learn about practical technique in lab for detail study of plant cell structure, reproduction, anatomy, breeding procedures for hybridisation. Maintain a high level of scientific excellence in botanical research with specific emphasis on the role of plants.
